An exhibition that explores the intersection of football and literature, reflecting on the Mexican national team, what it represents, and its central protagonist: the public—the “12th player” who transforms every match into a collective experience. As Villoro himself has said, “If the World Cup were about supporters, we would be champions.”
With the coordination of writer Juan Villoro, a member of El Colegio Nacional, the exhibition explores key moments, memorable episodes, and defining figures in the history of the national team. Through excerpts from Villoro’s books, including Los once de la tribu (1995), Dios es redondo (2006), and Balón dividido (2014), alongside photographs, objects—including jerseys and commemorative memorabilia—and sound archives, the exhibition examines the many ways football has been narrated and experienced in Mexico.
